MERGING THE VISION THROUGH FORM
MAIDEN WITH A DAGGER - FULL BACK PIECE
Practice trial of what the process would be like to design a large scale back tattoo. I hoped to create a design that tells a story for both the wearer and the artist. Studying application of my imagery to the 3-dimensional surface of a human body as well as improving line work and illustration techniques. Finding my own voice artistically while giving someone else a voice through imagery that will become a part of who they are--an exchange of art and personal freedom.
Process: Pulling inspiration from the tattoo art form itself, the human form, ancient spiritual illustrations, Native American culture, & my own creative journey in search of my identity. Stencil paper was used for initial outlines, while a toxic free marker was used to free-hand other design elements. NO TATTOOING was done here, just the use of a Genipa Americana plant herb that temporarily stains the skin. This plant is used by tribes in South America, who have used it for thousands of years as body ornamentation.
CONCEPT FLASH - TATTOO PLACEMENT
Starting with a simple flash concept, this project was intended to challenge my ability to transform the 2-dimensional form of drawings to the 3-dimensional form of the body. This is where I truly find an illustration comes alive - the body is the ultimate canvas.
